An Opp man is back in jail on a bond of more than $2 million after being indicted by a grand jury on charges ranging from rape and sodomy to sexual abuse of a child.

Jerry Wayne Scofield, 59, of Opp, was taken into custody by Covington County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Paige Spivey Monday. Scofield was originally jailed in December, after an unrelated case revealed he allegedly sexually abused a female relative for years. Scofield’s December arrest came after a months-long investigation, CCSO officials said at the time.

A 5-month child pornography investigation is coming to an end with the arrest of a Covington County woman, according to the District Attorney’s office.

Ashley Bostwick Eiland was arrested by investigators with the D.A.’s office Wednesday and transported to the Covington County Jail.

Eiland, who is charged with possession of obscene materials, is being held on a $100,000 cash bond.

The arrest comes after Andalusia police officers and the district attorney’s office executed search warrants at Eiland’s home and work. The December 5, 2013 search resulted in the seizure of multiple cell phones, electronic devices and the suspect’s work computer.

Price, who has worked with Internet safety for nearly two decades and spoken about it in Covington County on several occasions, said sites like this one always disappoint him.

“For the community and parents, I suggest they follow a deliberate, structured approach to address the issues that poor use of technology can create,” Price said. “On our website, whoswatchingalabama.org, we provide a number of online resources.”

Among those resources is a framework called ADMIT, which offers simple steps that foster a safe computing environment for everyone, especially children.

“We designed the ADMIT framework as a tool to assist parents, guardians, and others with these challenging events,” he said.
