Michael M. said one of the children actually did. The child, one of Gavin’s and Jacen’s friends, started following the drone down the street to Dollar Tree, where the drone voice said it was going.

Michael M. said the child’s father happened to see him walking down the street and stopped the child before he got to Dollar Tree.

Barreto, 43, and her husband, Ramon, allegedly traveled to Guatemala on multiple occasions in 2005 and 2006 to purchase children from a local adoption agency. Authorities say the children were brought back to the United States and were malnourished, physically abused, and forced to sleep on beds with plywood bottoms.

“The children were purportedly often punished with beatings and on various occasions duct-taped to their beds, punched in the stomach, and forced to endure having their heads submerged under water,” the Marshals Service said.

Former Army officer Aaron Lucas, 33, of Huntsville, was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison today in Colorado for multiple sex crimes against children, the Gazette reports.

According to the Gazette, the former Fort Carson soldier  was sentenced by Judge David Shakes for charges that included rape and sexual assault of a child.

Under way since 2012, the operation has resulted in the arrest of 29 people, 11 of them from the group in the Philippines that facilitated the abuse, Britain’s National Crime Agency (NCA) said in a statement Wednesday.

Some of the people who arranged for the abuse, which was filmed on webcams, were from the children’s own families, it said.

A Hazel Green man charged with attempting to lure two children of a Huntsville police officer into his car entered a guilty plea today on charges of attempted kidnapping and enticing a child for immoral purposes.

Nicholos Kirk Roberts, 42, was arrested in December 2011 after leading police on a high-speed chase after the kids’ father found him. Roberts’ truck ultimately crashed on a Memorial Parkway service road and law enforcement officers had to pull him out of the vehicle before it burst into flames.

Friday, the Tallahassee Police Department released that 41-year-old David Hicks II was one of 20 arrested during the week of April 10-15 by the North Florida Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force or ICAC.  The operation was aimed at predatory online solicitation of children for sex, said Tallahassee Police Chief Dennis Jones.
