The trial for former Stanhope Elmore High School teacher and track coach Jeffrey Stanton began on Wednesday.

“All the state of Alabama has to prove is that he was a teacher at Stanhope Elmore and she was a student and they had sexual intercourse, it specifically says consent is not a defense,” said Assistant District Attorney Mandy Johnson.
